Copper mesh:

40 mesh protects 50 dB at 1 GHz.

100 mesh protects 55 dB at 1 GHz.

200 mesh protects 63 dB at 1 GHz

The holes in a 40 mesh are bigger and the metal is thicker and stronger.

The 200 mesh holes are tiny tiny.

This is why it provides a better shielding. 

The metal is thinner but the protection is still more effective because of the tiny tiny hole size.

Bronze Mesh

Bronze mesh:

40 mesh protects 49 dB at 1GHz against microwaves.

100 mesh protects 54 dB at 1 GHz against microwaves.

200 mesh protects 61 dB at 1 GHz

Mesh count

They metal mesh comes with different hole sizes and mesh count. The hole sizes are square.

The best possible protection is with 200 mesh count.

The higher number the more holes per inch meaning that the holes are smaller the higher mesh count.
